What we do
We provide a comprehensive specialist outpatients service for all secondary and tertiary paediatric general surgical conditions for the Southwest region. This service is for children from 0-15 years. We offer outreach clinics in Plymouth, Truro, Torbay, Exeter, Taunton, Yeovil, Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Our specialisms
- We offer a fully comprehensive surgical gastroenterology service, including both upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery
- Neonatal surgery
- Congenital lung lesions
- We offer a joint surgical and gastroenterology clinic for inflammatory bowel disease and gastro-oesophageal Reflux
- Antenatal counselling is offered in conjunction with the Fetal Medicine Department at St Michael’s Hospital
- We provide a multidisciplinary paediatric oncology service

- Pathological phimosis
- Undescended testes
- Hydrocoeles
- Thyroglossal cysts
- Haemangiomas and lymphangiomas
- Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
- Congenital anomalies of the gastrointestinal tract and lung
- Gastro-oeophageal reflux
Treatments we offer
- Herniotomies
- Circumcision (only for pathological phimosis, not for cultural reasons)
- Orchidopexy +/- laparoscopy for undescended testes
- Ligation of processusus vaginalis for persistent hydrocoeles
- Pyloromyotomy for pyloric stenosis
- Fundoplication for gastro-oesophageal reflux – open or laparoscopic
