Overview

The fetal medicine service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers care for women whose pregnancies need an increased level of ultrasound surveillance, or have encountered a range of problems including (but not limited to):

  • an increased chance of a fetal abnormality – for example genetic or anatomical problems
  • growth disorders
  • complications of multiple pregnancy
  • placental abnormalities

We link with local specialist antenatal clinics providing high risk pregnancy care, such as our Preterm birth Prevention clinic, Maternal Medicine and endocrine disorders clinic, and Perinatal mental health clinic. We also work closely with our tertiary colleagues at St Michael’s hospital Fetal Medicine unit and Fetal Cardiology service in Bristol, who support us by accepting referrals for potential fetal intervention, expert opinion or postnatal care planning where necessary.

How to find us

Our fetal medicine services are provided on two sites across the Trust: Gloucester Royal Hospital, in the Women’s Centre (at the rear of the hospital site) and Cheltenham General Hospital, St Paul’s wing.

Both sites are served by several bus routes, with the number 99 bus running between the two sites.

Paid parking is available for patients on both sites. The easiest option at GRH is the Tower Car park (then follow signs to the Women’s Centre and book in for your appointment with the receptionists at the antenatal clinic reception); at CGH there are car parks at the main front entrance to the hospital, and near to the emergency department entrance on College Road. Additionally, there is paid parking available on residential roads around the hospital and at the Sandford Park Lido. St Paul’s wing can be found at the back of the site, between the emergency department and the Lido. The antenatal clinic and scanning service is on the second floor, opposite the Aveta Birth Unit.
